About

Darren

I’ve been an independent financial adviser for more than 30 years. I provide holistic financial advice, specialising in helping airline pilots and senior executives who are approaching/in retirement.

I am also a Registered Life Planner with The Kinder Institute of Life Planning. The experience and skills attained through this training help me bring a sense of clarity and purpose to the whole planning experience.

Having previously managed the financial planning arm of the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA), I started Aspirational Financial Planning Limited in 2020 to provide a more bespoke service focused on producing positive outcomes for clients and enhancing their wellbeing.

At home

I’m married to Sam with two grown-up daughters.

I enjoy travel, dining out, sport, world cinema and live music.

I still play football twice a week, although at my age, it’s more a friendly kick about than anything too competitive! I also enjoy getting muddy on my mountain bike.

Everywhere’s an adventure! In my mind though, it’s not the destination, but who I get to share the experience with that’s the most important.

My favourite song to play in the car is:

Depends on my mood, but Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure always puts a smile on my face (if only because it reminds me of dancing around the kitchen with my youngest daughter while the two of us were cooking one Saturday evening)

If I could be any fictional character, I would be:

James Bond (doesn’t every man want to be James Bond?) although my daughters think I am more suited to Johnny English!

When the dessert menu arrives, I’m looking for:

Creme Brulee

The best gift I’ve ever received is:

My iPod. It’s of classic design (ok, I’m a dinosaur!), but it gets used every single day.

My proudest moment as a Financial Planner was:

Every time a client has a ‘eureka’ moment, I go away satisfied I have succeeded in my endeavours.
